Mumble - Setup and Configuration

The Guild of Guilds uses software called Mumble for voice chat (rather than packages such as Ventrilo or Teamspeak). We've selected this software for its superior quality, featureset, and price (it's free!)

1. Go to http://mumble.sourceforge.net/ and get the build marked (Stable) for your OS. Install it.

Once that's installed, start it up, and you'll need to create a certificate. This takes the place of passwords and registration, and streamlines the whole process for you.

2. Once you have your cert set up, just connect to the GoG server. Enter your desired username, but copy the other settings.

3. Once you're connected, register on the server. It's as easy as right-clicking in the Mumble window, and selecting "Register".

Once registered, you can set an overlay texture, if you so desire. Just go to the File menu and select "Change Texture". Select an image to use, and it'll show on the overlay when you talk, rather than your name. It is recommended that you use a 600x60 image.

Finally, this version of Mumble supports "Temporary Channels". Anyone can create a channel, but when there is nobody left in it, the channel will automatically disappear. This lets you create disposable channels for a 5-man, or a PVP group, or whatever you like. To create a channel, just click on a channel and click "Add". You can add a password if you want, as well.

Once created, you can password your channel by right-clicking on it and select "Edit". Enter a password down below and your new channel is protected.
